Microexperience Highlight: Ferguson Women in Trades Sweepstakes

Ferguson’s Women in Trade Sweepstakes is a beautifully designed microexperience aimed to celebrate, reward, and inspire women working in skilled trades.

About Ferguson Enterprises

Ferguson is a leading distributor in North America, providing expertise, solutions, and products for the plumbing, HVAC, fire, fabrication, and infrastructure industries. Ferguson’s purpose is to help make complex projects simple, successful, and sustainable, all while putting relationship and community building at the forefront of everything they do.

To celebrate Women’s History Month, Ferguson launched the Women in Trade Sweepstakes to honor women working in the skilled trades and reward them for sharing their stories. Of the 165 million people working in the trades, women make up only 250,000 – less than 4%. There is an urgent need for a skilled workforce and Ferguson wants to showcase the ample opportunities for women to advance in these careers.

The Microexperience: Women in Trade Sweepstakes

The Women in Trades campaign encourages participants to “be the inspiration” and submit their stories of how they entered the trade and became successful. In exchange, participants are entered into a drawing where they can win a prize package sponsored by Milwaukee Tools.

Entry into the sweepstakes requires standard form fields (ie. email, zip code, open text responses) with built-in validation, as well as a photo upload.

Participants are also asked to identify their industry interest(s) in order to receive more relevant emails. This is a great example of “value exchange” – one of the main principles of zero-party data collection.

After submitting the form, participants are routed to a thank you page that links to relevant educational content.

Lastly, built-in sharing buttons make it easy for participants to invite other women to share their story for a chance to win.

More About Sweepstakes

Ferguson’s Women in Trades Sweepstakes is a great example of using a Wyng-built microexperience to:

  1. Increase customer engagement
  2. Collect user-generated content
  3. Drive email opt-ins
  4. Foster brand affinity
  5. Capture zero-party data

Since sweepstakes are so engaging for customers and beneficial for brands, it is a popular microexperience for businesses to run. Make sure when creating your sweepstakes, you take the following into consideration:

  • Fraud protection – Scammers love freebies. Configure entry limits, field validation rules, or consider gating entry with a photo/receipt upload or special code in order to reduce junk submissions. Ask your experience provider if they offer any built-in fraud detection and prevention capabilities.
  • Prize fulfillment services – Not all prizes are the same, and there are legal considerations to take into account when distributing prizes. If this is an area you or team are unfamiliar with, consider partnering with a provider that handles all fulfillment services (like prize management, winner selection and moderation, and legal requirements).
